Getting Started

Welcome to Unhinged! Here's how to get started creating amazing stick figure animations:

  1. Create Your First Animation - Tap "New Animation" to start with a blank canvas and default stick figure
  2. Pose Your Character - Drag joints directly on the canvas to create your first pose
  3. Add Keyframes - Use the timeline at the bottom to add keyframes at different time points
  4. Preview - Tap the play button to see your animation in action
  5. Export - When you're happy with your animation, export it as GIF, SVG, or other formats

  • Operating System: iOS 17.0 or later, iPadOS 17.0 or later
  • Device: iPhone 8 or newer, iPad Air 3 or newer, iPad Pro
  • Storage: 200MB available space
  • Display: Works on all iPhone and iPad screen sizes

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create my first animation?

To create your first animation:

  1. Tap the "New Animation" button on the Animations tab
  2. Give your animation a name
  3. Drag the joints to pose your stick figure
  4. Tap the keyframe button to save the pose
  5. Move to a different time and create a new pose
  6. Tap play to preview your animation!
Where are my animations saved?

All your animations are saved locally on your iPhone or iPad. They're automatically saved as you work and stored in the app's private storage. Your animations are included in iCloud backups if you have iCloud Backup enabled in Settings.

How do I export and share my animation?

To export your animation:

  1. Open your animation in the editor
  2. Tap the share/export button
  3. Choose your format (GIF, video, or image sequence)
  4. Select quality and size settings
  5. Tap "Export" and choose where to save or share

You can share directly to social media, messages, or save to your Photos app.

How do I add accessories to my character?

To add accessories:

  1. Go to the Accessories tab in the gallery
  2. Browse built-in accessories or create your own
  3. Tap an accessory to add it to your character
  4. Drag to position and attach to joints

Accessories move with your character as you animate!

How do I adjust animation timing?

To adjust timing:

  1. In the timeline, tap and drag a keyframe to move it
  2. Pinch to zoom in/out on the timeline for precision
  3. Long-press a keyframe for more options
  4. Use the playback speed slider to preview at different speeds
Can I create multiple stick figures in one animation?

Yes! You can add multiple characters to create complex scenes. Each character can be animated independently with its own poses and timeline.

What export formats are available?

Unhinged supports:

  • GIF - Perfect for sharing on social media
  • Video (MP4) - High-quality video format
  • Image Sequence - Individual PNG frames
Does Unhinged work on iPad?

Yes! Unhinged works great on both iPhone and iPad. The iPad's larger screen provides more canvas space for detailed animations. The app automatically adapts to your device's screen size.

Is there a desktop version?

Unhinged is currently available for iPhone and iPad. A macOS version may be considered for future development. Follow us on the App Store for updates.
